Support Expectations

For the past (about 10 now!) years my goal has been to answer each and every Hog Bay Software related forum post and email. I haven’t always been successful at this, but that was the goal, and I felt bad when I didn’t reach it.

For the past few months I’ve had about 100 unread email in my Inbox. Each day I spend time answering some of the most important, but the next day they are always replaced with more. It’s no so much a problem of bad Inbox managment as it is a problem of not enough time in the day.

So instead of feeling overwhelmed and bad that I’m not reaching my goal, it’s time to change my goal. I still expect to be responsive, but I’m no longer going to try to answer all emails and all questions. I’ve just updated the Hog Bay Software site with a new Support Expectations section that details what I will try to do.

I will still read all emails, and they will effect what I’m thinking abou and working on. I’m just going to be less likely to respond in the future, and I hope that means I’ll also be more likely to create the new features and software that was asked for in the first place.
