iPad/iPhone versions of TaskPaper and WriteRoom
I’ve been working on TaskPaper for iPad for a few days now… I know I started a week or two ago, but have only squeezed a few work days out of that time, Kids! My original plan was to make the app universal, one app that works on both iPhone and iPad.
But I’m adjusting my plan. The new plan is to release a universal quick port (basically just like the iPhone version, but at full iPad resolution). And then longer term to possibily release an iPad specific version of the app.
The quick port will be a free updated for existing iPhone users. The iPad specific version will probably cost $10 when/if I release it.
My likely plan of action is:
- First get undo working for the next version of TaskPaper iPhone/iPad and release.
- Update WriteRoom iPhone/iPad to use the TaskPaper text engine and release.
- Once those things are done I’ll try to decide if my focus should be on iPad specific versions of the apps or updating Mac versions of the apps.
Edit
In the comments a few people have wondered what the differences would be between the potential iPad only release, and the universal iPhone/iPad release… it’s no so much new features as it is addopting iPad conventions. For example in the iPad version there wouldn’t be a separate documents view… instead it would show as a popup in vertical orientation and as a sidebar in horizontal orientation. Also I would likely want to use iPad popup menus, instead of my own custom popup menus on the iPad. And maybe move the toolbar items around to better use space. So the basic text view / features would remain the same, but the sourounding UI could change signifigantly to better use the larger space.
