The Magic Grid WriteRoom 3 for OS X Theme

From PixelGrinch: “The Magic Grid Theme consists of 6 themes. The only difference between them is the grid color of the background (blue, green, orange, pink, red and turquoise).

It is magic because you can change the grid color by simply adjusting the ‘Window Background Color’ within the theme settings! Now that’s MAGIC!”

FoldingText 1.0

I’m excited to announce FoldingText 1.0!

FoldingText combines the best of what we’ve learned from WriteRoom and TaskPaper into a new tool for plain text productivity. The foundation is a plain text outliner that uses Markdown formatting. But that’s just the start. I think the movie does a good job of showing what it’s really all about, go watch it! :)

FoldingText builds on the ideas in our existing WriteRoom and TaskPaper apps, but it doesn’t replace them. (We are 4 people at Hog Bay Software now and have continued to develop WriteRoom and TaskPaper throughout FoldingText’s development. We don’t plan to stop now). My expectation is that WriteRoom will always be maintained. It provides simplest possible writing solution with no bells and whistles. Long term (year a minimum, probably longer) when FoldingText can do everything that TaskPaper can do, FoldingText is expected to replaced TaskPaper. But that’s still far enough away to be unpredictable. Another option might be that we just update TaskPaper to use FoldingText’s engine.

Anyway, exciting day for us! I hope FoldingText proves useful!

New App: FoldingText

FoldingText is for structured text editing. It is a markdown based text editor with auto-formatting support, markdown syntax hiding, and the foundation to be something more.

FoldingText is a work in progress. At this stage it is unlikely to become your go-to editor. You’ll run into bugs, there aren’t many features, and there isn’t even an icon.

It has potential. We’ve build a foundation that takes and extends our ideas from WriteRoom and TaskPaper. We are starting small, but the underlying code is powerful.

Please join us. We need your testing and feedback. Join early and help set the direction we take.

While I’m not usually a fan of this kinda faux dimensional thing, this actually serves bit of a purpose for screenwriters: it gives you a sense of how much of what you’re writing fills a page (which equals one minute of screen time.) “It’s in the same vein as the old Writeroom black/green style, but optimized for full screen on my 15-inch MacBook Pro, and uses Courier New for a bit of a typewriter look as well. I’m very happy with it and hope that others will be as well.”

Found Typewriter WriteRoom 3 for OS X Theme

Theme created by Jeff Chapman. In his own words:

“The font used is American Typewriter, which I understand is installed by default for Mac OS X nowadays. I created the theme on a MacBook Pro 15”, so the highest screen resolution supported with the background image at 100% size is 1440 x 900px. The background image is a heavily edited version of the “Paper Leather Texture” made available on Flickr (via Creative Commons license) at the following URL: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bartiservin/3785177730/. I’ve done my best to create a theme that is easy to read, easy on the eyes and a familiar but stylish use of paper backgrounds for WriteRoom.”

Added link to ‘Downloadable More Themes…’ in Themes menu.
‘Show Formatting Toolbar’ displays properly in all rich text documents.
Works better with QuickCursor, no untitled window opened, and always sends text back.
Documents ending in .html (and other extensions) are no longer changed to .txt on save.
‘File > Open New Windows…’ setting is now global instead of associated with current theme.
‘Select Word’ command works more like TextMate, selecting whitespace when appropriate.
Changed ‘Select Paragraph’ to use Shift-Command-L keyboard shortcut.
